Vol. 229 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Increase in Radio Licence Cost.

9.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether any increase in the cost of the radio licence is contemplated; and if so, whether old age pensioners and blind people will be exempted from any such increase.

The question of whether the cost of radio and television licences should be increased is being examined, but no decision has yet been made except that any increase will not come into operation during the current financial year. As Deputies are aware, free radio licences are issued to necessitous blind persons who satisfy certain conditions. No further concession is contemplated.
