Vol. 229 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Derating and Unemployment Assistance.

32.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if farmers under £20 valuation being derated will have the valuation on land deducted from their demand notes; and what effect this will have on small farmers applying for qualification certificates for unemployment assistance.

The relief being granted to farmers in certain ranges of valuation from liability for rates on land will not affect the land-valuation itself, which will still stand. The valuation of their land is and must continue to be the normal yardstick for calculating, at the existing rate of £20 per year per £ valuation, the farm income of smallholders in congested areas who apply for qualification certificates under the Unemployment Assistance Acts.
