Vol. 229 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Castle Parking Facilities.

26.

asked the Minister for Finance if persons travelling to the various offices in Dublin Castle to transact official business are allowed to park their cars within the Castle precincts while they are transacting such business; and, if not, if he will make immediate arrangements that those bona fide conducting business in the Castle will be allowed to leave their cars during the period of the transaction of their business.

The amount of car parking space available in Dublin Castle is not unlimited and following representations by the Garda authorities, arising from the excessive number of cars being brought in there, it was decided recently in the interests of security and fire protection to exclude all cars other than those in respect of which official parking permits had been granted. It has been found that it would be practically impossible to check and control the parking of cars by persons claiming to have business in the Castle and I regret that I am unable to make any general concession in this regard.

I am, however, prepared to consider sympathetically applications from persons who can establish that they have to transact business regularly at the Castle and that it would be a hardship on them not to be able to bring their cars to the Castle for that purpose.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary accept applications in those circumstances from solicitors who have to go to the Companies Office and the Revenue Commissioners as a matter of regularity?

As I have stated in my reply, I am prepared to consider sympathetically applications from people who have regular business in the Castle and who can establish that.

You get a lot of money from us.
