Vol. 229 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Roscommon Telephone Service.

5.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs what plans his Department have in hands for the development of telephone services in the Carrick-on-Shannon-Boyle areas of County Roscommon; and when work is likely to start on this development.

I take it that what the Deputy has principally in mind is the introduction of automatic working. I cannot say when the automatic system will be extended to the areas in question; they are not included in current programmes which will take several years to complete.

Meanwhile, the existing manual exchanges are adequately equipped to provide a satisfactory standard of service. Trunk circuiting in the areas is also adequate except for the route from Carrick-on-Shannon to Sligo which will be put right within the next few months.
