Vol. 230 No. 5

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Membership of EEC.

1.

asked the Taoiseach if he will make a statement on his most recent visit to Europe in connection with Ireland's application for membership of the EEC.

Deputies will have seen the communiqué issued at the close of my visit to Italy from which it will be noted that the Italian Government confirmed their support for the entry of Ireland into the European Economic Community. This is in accordance with the Italian desire to expand the Community to include those European countries which are prepared to accept the principles and aims of the Rome Treaty.

I should like to take this opportunity to say how moved I was by the warmth of the reception given to me by Prime Minister Moro and his colleagues on the occasion of my visit.
