asked the Minister for Education if he is aware that some national school pupils aged 13½ years were told that they should attend a vocational school as they had completed sixth standard; if national school authorities have power to refuse pupils in such cases; and if he will clarify the situation.

Mr. O'Malley
I am not so aware. No complaints or representations have been made to me in the matter. While there is no regulation which compels a pupil to leave a national school when he has completed sixth standard, I feel that the educational interests of the pupils to whom the Deputy refers would best be served by their being transferred to post-primary schools.
