Vol. 230 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Import of Corrective Shoes.

37.

Mr. Barrett

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that owing to the closing down of a firm (details supplied) a brand of corrective shoes for children is no longer available in the State; and if, having regard to the possible deterioration in children's foot conditions in the absence of such shoes, he will arrange to have duty-free import licences for limited numbers of the shoes issued without delay to regular retail suppliers, pending renewed manufacture of the shoes in the State.

38.

Mr. Barrett

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he has received any applications for duty-free import licences in respect of a brand (name supplied) of corrective shoes for children which are no longer manufactured in the State; and, if so, if he will give details of his decision on such applications.

I propose with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 37 and 38 together.

Corrective shoes for children of the brand named were not made in the State at any time. No duty-free licences are required for corrective shoes but quota licences have been given in the past and will continue to be given. Two applications for quota licences for such corrective shoes have recently been received and these will be dealt with in the normal way.
