Vol. 230 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

15.

asked the Minister for Local Government if, having regard to the fact that Roscommon County Council prepared regional water supply schemes costing approximately three million pounds and that his Department have now intimated the unlikelihood of such an amount being available, he will recoup the council the loss sustained in consultants' fees on schemes for which money may not be allocated by his Department.

I have already made a loan available to Roscommon County Council to enable them to defray expenses incurred in respect of consultants' fees for regional schemes pending such schemes reaching construction stage. This loan has not yet been fully drawn by the council.

Consultants' fees rank for recoupment by way of contribution to loan charges when the particular scheme on which they were incurred commences.

16.

asked the Minister for Local Government the names of the regional water supply schemes already prepared for execution in County Sligo; the names of schemes at present under consideration and in preparation; the total estimated cost of all schemes yet to be undertaken; the total amount paid to consultants for such schemes; and when it is estimated that all the schemes will be completed.

The following regional water supply schemes in County Sligo are in progress or completed: Ballymote Scheme; Lough Talt Regional Extensions; North Sligo Scheme —sections 1 and 2; Lower Rosses Scheme.

The following regional schemes are at various stages of planning: Lough Gill Scheme; Lough Easkey Scheme; North Sligo Scheme—section 3 and extensions to sections 1 and 2; Castlebaldwin/Ballinafad Scheme; Calry/ Kiltycahill Scheme; Drum/Kinsellagh Scheme; Ballymote Regional Extensions; Lough Gara Scheme.

The total cost of the schemes in planning is estimated at £1.2 million.

I have no information as to the total amount paid by Sligo County Council to consultants in respect of those schemes nor can I forecast when they will all be completed.

17.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the unsatisfactory state of the Rosses regional water scheme in Gweedore, County Donegal; and, if so, if he will take immediate steps to remedy the matter before the next tourist season.

I have approved a tender for a booster pump at Dore to improve the water supply position in the Gweedore area and I am informed by Donegal County Council that the work is expected to start shortly.

18.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position regarding the extension of the Ballymote regional water scheme, County Sligo to Carnaree and Ardnaglass.

19.

asked the Minister for Local Government the reason for the very long delay in starting the Drumfin group water supply scheme, County Sligo; and what the present position is.

I propose with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 18 and 19 together.

Preliminary proposals for a scheme of extensions to the Ballymote regional water supply which included the extension referred to by the Deputy, were submitted to my Department on 21st April, 1967. The scheme together with a number of other regional water supply schemes in Sligo and elsewhere, is included in a review of regional schemes generally, which is at present being carried out by sanitary authorities throughout the country. A decision on the proposals must await completion of this review.

The Drumfin group water supply scheme is dependent on a supply from the Ballymote regional water supply extension scheme.

20.

asked the Minister for Local Government when the proposed water scheme will be extended to Castlemagner, Kilbrin and Lisgriffin, County Cork.

The areas referred to by the Deputy are included in the proposed Newmarket/Knocknagree/ Allow regional water supply scheme. This scheme, together with a number of other regional water supply schemes in the Cork area, and elsewhere, is included in a review of regional schemes generally which is at present being carried out by sanitary authorities throughout the country. A decision on the proposals at present before my Department must await completion of this review.

21.

asked the Minister for Local Government when he will sanction Tyrrellspass sewerage scheme, County Westmeath, the drawings and specification for which were sent to him on the 21st September, 1967.

Contract documents for this scheme are at present under examination in my Department. I am not in a position to say when a decision in the matter is likely to issue.

22.

asked the Minister for Local Government the position in his Department in regard to the provision of a sewerage scheme for the village of Errill, County Laois.

On 29th August last, I approved the proposal of Laois County Council for the appointment of a consulting engineer to prepare a preliminary report for a sewerage scheme for Errill.

No further proposals have been received in my Department to date.

23.

asked the Minister for Local Government when work will commence on the sewerage scheme at Glantane, County Cork.

There are no proposals before my Department for a sewerage scheme for Glantane, County Cork.
