Vol. 230 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Value of Pound.

1.

asked the Taoiseach how much the £1 was worth in 1948, 1956 and in 1966 in terms of the present pound.

With your permission, Sir, I propose to circulate in the Official Report a statement giving the estimated amounts which would be required at mid-August, 1967, to purchase the same quantum of goods and services at retail prices as would £1 in the years specified.

Would it be too much trouble, in view of the fact that there are only three figures, to give the three figures?

Following is the statement:—

ESTIMATED amounts which would be required at mid-August, 1967 to purchase the same quantum of goods and services at retail prices as would £1 in the years specified. The estimates are based on the retail price index numbers.
