Vol. 230 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Prison Dale Carnegie Course.

45.

asked the Minister for Justice if a Dale Carnegie course is being held in Mountjoy prison at present; and, if so, if he will give the reasons for holding such a course.

A Dale Carnegie course in Effective Speaking and Human Relations commenced in Mountjoy Prison in July last and concluded very recently. Another course, of a similar kind, is beginning this month. These courses are part of our prison rehabilitation programme and are designed to foster a sense of ressponsibility and self-confidence in the participants which will assist them in the matter of employment and integration in the community on their release. The course is eagerly availed of by the selected prisoners and seems to the prison administration to promise good results.

I am happy to have this opportunity of recording my appreciation of Dale Carnegie and Associates Incorporated, who are conducting the courses entirely free of charge.

Hear, hear.

We could all do with courses.

How to Make Friends and Influence People.

Not quite, but on the same principle. I could arrange a course like that for the Deputy.
