Vol. 230 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Motor Assembly Industry.

14.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is satisfied that adequate preparations for freer trade are proceeding in the motor assembly industry; whether he foresees any enlargement of the present labour force in the industry; and whether he is satisfied that management and trade unions are co-operating to ensure the survival of this industry.

The Deputy will, no doubt, be aware that negotiations, aimed at ensuring the preservation of the motor assembly industry, have been in progress. I have already informed the House that I hope to be in a position to make a statement on the outcome of these negotiations soon.

Since the matters raised by the Deputy are directly related to the objective of these negotiations, I am not in a position to deal with them in advance of the announcement.
