Vol. 231 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - National Loan.

29.

asked the Minister for Finance if the 7 per cent national loan has been fully subscribed; if so, in what way; and what amount of small subscriptions was received.

As I announced on 6 November, the National Loan for £25 million was fully subscribed. In addition to the amounts mentioned in the prospectus of £5.3 million from insurance companies and financial institutions and £5 million from Departmental Funds, applications totalling £15.8 million were received and the allotment to Departmental Funds was scaled down to enable these to be met in full.

Applications for amounts of £5,000 or less accounted for £8.7 million.

Has the Minister any information he could give to the House as to the amount of Post Office savings withdrawn for the purpose of investing in the loan?

I would not have that.

That is a separate question.

Perhaps I can ask it another time.

Can the Minister tell the House if the loan is standing at a discount on the Dublin Stock Exchange?

It is not. Do not try to talk it down the way you try to talk down cattle prices.

The facts are there.
