Vol. 231 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Sligo Houses.

2.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that two houses (particulars supplied) recently collapsed in County Sligo and that the inhabitants were lucky to escape injury; and if he will hasten the provision of suitable accommodation in these cases.

I understand from Sligo County Council that, in the first-mentioned case, the dwelling has collapsed but that it had previously been vacated by the occupants on learning from officers of the housing authority that it was beyond repair. I am informed also that the housing authority assisted the occupants in the provision of emergency accommodation pending the provision of a suitable dwelling.

I understand also that the second house has not collapsed, that the roof has been damaged by fire, and that arrangements are being made for the immediate repair of the dwelling with the aid of grants already allocated by my Department and the housing authority.
