Ceisteanna—Questions (Resumed). - Wexford Housing Needs.

14.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state in respect of (a) Wexford County Council, (b) Wexford Corporation, (c) Enniscorthy Urban District Council, (d) New Ross Urban District Council and (e) Gorey Town Commissioners the present housing requirements; and the nature of the proposals to satisfy these housing needs.

According to the assessment of housing need submitted by the housing authorities under section 53 of the Housing Act, 1966, there is an accumulated need for 580 private and local authority dwellings in Wexford county, excluding the urban areas. The corresponding figures for the Enniscorthy and New Ross urban districts are 157 and 206 respectively. An up-to-date assessment of needs has not yet been received in my Department from Wexford Corporation but it is understood that the corresponding figure for Wexford town will be in the region of 45 dwellings. Separate figures are not available for Gorey town.

Housing authorities generally are required to adopt building programmes by 31 March, 1968, related to their needs assessments for the period ending 31 March, 1971. None of the housing authorities in County Wexford has, as yet, adopted such programmes. I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to have circulated with the Official Report a tabular statement of the proposals in hands to meet present requirements. The following is the statement:—

I think that figure for Wexford should read 450.
