Vol. 231 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - West Waterford Unemployment.

42.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will accede to the request of Lismore Town Commissioners that the Lismore area and the west Waterford area generally be declared an underdeveloped area by reason of the lack of industrial employment of any kind and the very high incidence of unemployment and emigration among the people of the area.

I announced in the House when moving the Estimates for my Department that there is a reappraisal being carried out of the programme for encouraging the establishment of new industry and that the introduction of new legislation was anticipated. I do not propose to alter further the designation of any particular area for industrial grant purposes at least until this appraisal is completed.
