Vol. 231 No. 6

Deputy Coughlan: Expression of Regret. - Announcement by Chair.

I have received from Deputy Coughlan a written expression of regret for his conduct in the House on Thursday last which led to his suspension. It reads as follows:

"A Cheann Comhairle, I desire to express regret for my refusing to obey the ruling of the Chair calling on me to resume my seat and for refusing to withdraw from the Dáil when directed so to do.

Sincerely Yours,

(Signed) Steve Coughlan."

In the circumstances of the case, I approved of the expression of regret. Under Standing Order 50, the House may, if it wishes, discharge the order of suspension.

In the circumstances, I move that the order of the House of 23rd November, suspending Deputy Coughlan from the service of the House, be discharged.

Question put and agreed to.
