Vol. 231 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Eradication of Brucellosis.

5.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he will make a statement on the exact position regarding the eradication of brucellosis in Louth and in all neighbouring counties.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply to a question from Deputy O'Donnell on 18th October last in which I gave an outline of progress under the brucellosis eradication scheme.

Eradication measures are in progress in Cavan and Monaghan. These measures will be extended in stages and it is hoped to include Louth before the end of 1968 and Meath and Dublin in 1970. In the meantime, a herdowner in the counties in which full eradication measures have not been introduced who, through his own efforts, has cleared his herd of the disease may participate in the Brucellosis (Certified) Herds Scheme under which he may qualify for free testing and the purchase of reactors by my Department.
