Vol. 231 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Booterstown (Dublin) Bird Sanctuary.

11.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the incursions being made into Booterstown marshes, Dublin; and if he will make a preservation order for the area to ensure its continuance as a bird sanctuary.

Drainage works are being carried out at Booterstown by Dún Laoghaire Corporation to alleviate periodic flooding of the Trimleston Stream which affects residential areas in the hinterland. I understand that the marshes will not permanently be affected by the works.

The making of a conservation order under the Local Government (Planning and Development) Act, 1963, is a matter in the first instance for consideration by Dún Laoghaire Corporation. The Corporation's draft development plan under the Act provides that the area is to be reserved for game and bird sanctuaries.
