Vol. 231 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry School.

53.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware that the parents of children at Ballinillane national school, Killarney, County Kerry, are demanding the erection of a new school towards which they have already made a contribution of £550 10s; and what steps he proposes to take to meet their demand in the near future.

Mr. O'Malley

The matter of the educational facilities to be provided for the pupils of Ballinillane national school, Killarney, has been thoroughly investigated. Having given the fullest consideration to all the facts disclosed by the investigation, I am satisfied that the erection of a new two-teacher school at Ballinillane should not be proceeded with and that the educational interests of the children would best be served by conveying them on a free transport service to an enlarged school at Firies in the same parish.

In regard to the costs incurred in the provision of a site for the intended new school at Ballinillane, the Reverend Manager was informed that these costs will be taken into account when the local contribution to be provided towards the proposed extension to Firies school will fall to be determined.
