Vol. 231 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Telephone Installation Charge.

5.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware that an applicant for a telephone in Quin (name and address supplied) has that is, five years' rental at £14 per year that is, five years rental at £14 per year plus £10 connection fee, before installation can be made; and that this demand will impose hardship on the applicant in question; if demands such as this are general; and if he will have the demand in this case reduced to a reasonable figure.

Each new telephone subscriber is required to pay rental in advance for the initial term of his agreement. The terms are standard and are based on the radial distance from the exchange to a subscriber's premises. The great majority of agreement terms are for one year. In the case of the applicant in question the appropriate term is five years and a reduction cannot be made.
