Vol. 231 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Redundancy in Shannon Industry.

4.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power whether redundancy has occurred at an industry at the Shannon industrial estate; if so, why; and what arrangements have been made to provide alternative employment for the redundant workers.

I understand that redundancy has occurred at a firm in the Shannon Industrial Estate. As it is not the practice to disclose information about the private affairs of individual concerns, I am not prepared to give further information in respect of the firm concerned. In a large industrial and commercial complex such as Shannon there will inevitably be fluctuations in the level of employment in individual concerns. I am informed by the Shannon Free Airport Development Company that they have been asked to assist in placing the redundant workers with other firms in the Industrial Estate and that they are now actively engaged in doing this.
