Vol. 231 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Laois-Offaly Housing.

16.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state in respect of (a) Laois County Council, (b) Offaly County Council, (c) Birr Urban District Council, (d) Tullamore Urban District Council, (e) Portlaoise Town Commissioners, (f) Edenderry Town Commissioners, and (g) Mountmellick Town Commissioners, the present housing requirements and the nature of the proposals to satisfy them.

I am informed by the housing authorities that the accumulated private and local authority housing needs are 1,112 dwellings in Laois county and 1,102 dwellings in Offaly county, excluding the urban areas. The corresponding figures furnished to me for Birr and Tullamore urban districts are 65 and 60 respectively. Separate figures for Portlaoise, Mountmellick and Edenderry are not available as these towns are included in the county figures.

I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to have circulated with the Official Report a tabular statement of the proposals in hands to meet present requirements for local authority dwellings.

Following is the statement:

Laois County Council

Offaly County Council

Birr U.D.C.
