Vol. 231 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Income Tax Allowances.

24.

asked the Minister for Finance if he has under consideration an increase in the personal and children's allowance for income tax purposes; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

As alterations in the income tax allowances are primarily budgetary matters to be taken into account together with other considerations at the appropriate time the Deputy will appreciate that I cannot at this stage make any statement.

The Minister will appreciate that it is a good idea to bring it to his notice now so that he can, within the next few months, make the necessary preparation if he desires to do it. Last year he said it was too late.

As far as bringing it to my notice is concerned, I would point out to the Deputy that the Fianna Fáil Árd Fheis had already referred to this matter.

Knowing that what usually happens at the Fianna Fáil Árd Fheis is so much window-dressing for delegates from the country, I think that to bring it to the Minister's notice in this House would be far more effective.
