Vol. 231 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Clonmel Post Office.

6.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the present position concerning proposed improvements at Clonmel Post Office, County Tipperary; the nature of these improvements; the reason for the delay in effecting them; the date on which work will commence; and the date by which these improvements will be completed.

It was unfortunately necessary to modify the original proposals for the first stage of the work comprising telephone exchange and engineering accommodation. Due to pressure of Post Office building schemes generally in the Office of Public Works revised plans have only recently been completed. Special measures are being taken in that office to expedite preparation of the detailed drawings and the Commissioners hope that building tenders will be invited by August, 1968. I am informed that it is not possible at this stage to forecast the commencement and completion dates for the first part of the scheme or to say when the second stage comprising enlargement of the public office, sorting office and clerical accommodation will commence. I wish to assure the Deputy, however, that every effort will be made to hasten completion of the work.
