Vol. 231 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Production of Protein.

17.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if, in view of the increased prices of imported protein owing to devaluation, he will consider initiating research into the possibility of getting protein from Irish grass by a process of maceration and separation as has been done elsewhere.

My Department and An Foras Talúntais have been keeping in touch with the work in this field in Britain and elsewhere and I am advised that the work has not yet reached the stage where the extraction and separation of protein is a commercial proposition. I will, however, have the Deputy's suggestion looked into.
