Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Teacher-Pupil Ratio in Dublin Schools.

45.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state the average teacher-pupil ratio in Dublin primary schools; whether he is satisfied with the present ratio; whether any examination is proceeding to produce a more satisfactory one; and whether any representations on this matter have been received from the Irish National Teachers Organisation.

The average teacher-pupil ratio in Dublin national schools is 1:39. The teacher-pupil ratio for national schools has been substantially improved over the past ten years and I propose to have further improvements effected annually until a satisfactory ratio has been reached.

This matter and the steps being taken in regard to it form the subject of discussion from time to time with the Irish National Teachers Organisation.
