Vol. 231 No. 11

Ceistenna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Broadcasting Authority.

3.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether there are any plans at present under consideration to amend the legislation which set up the Broadcasting Authority; whether any change in the institutional arrangements between the Government and the authority is contemplated; and whether there are any plans to provide more direct ministerial control.

The answer to each part of the question is "no."

There have been many rumours of late that the Government intend to interfere with the corporate existence of Telefís Éireann and it is to elicit whether there is any fact behind that rumour that I put down this question. I am glad the Minister has no evidence of any intention of interfering with what I call the Fifth Estate, namely, Telefís Éireann.
