Vol. 231 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rate Equalisation Scheme.

16.

asked the Minister for Local Government if his attention has been drawn to the resolution passed by Kerry County Council on 27th November, 1967 calling for a revision of the present rating system whereby Kerry and the western seaboard counties pay nearly double the rate of the rich midland counties and asking the Government to introduce a rate equalisation scheme to remove the present inequality; if he will take steps to introduce such a scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am informed that no such resolution was passed by Kerry County Council. The question of adjusting the burden of local taxation as between one area and another is being examined in the course of the present investigations into various aspects of the system of local finance and taxation.
