Vol. 231 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry School.

38.

asked the Minister for Education what progress has been made towards providing a new school for the children of Glen, Ballinskelligs, County Kerry, where the old school is both unsanitary and unsuitable for modern education.

In view of the special circumstances of this case my Department has agreed to the provision of a new two-roomed school at Glen to replace the existing school. A site which was offered by the Manager was considered by the Commissioners of Public Works to be unsuitable. The Manager subsequently stated that he is in communication with the Department of Lands regarding land division in the area and the possibility of obtaining a site from this source.

When a suitable site is available, the Commissioners will be asked to prepare sketch-plans and an estimate of the cost of the new school.

In the meantime the Commissioners are being asked to carry out essential repairs to the existing school to render it satisfactory pending the erection of the new school.
