Vol. 231 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Council Road Workers.

17.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state (a) the proposals for increases in the remuneration of county council road workers before his Department since 1st April, 1967, the proposed operative date; and (b) the nature of his approval or disapproval.

Since 1st April, 1967, proposals from county councils to pay the 10th round increase of £1 per week to roadworkers with effect from 1st May, 1966, instead of 1st June, 1966, as previously approved, were sanctioned.

A proposal was received on 27th November, 1967, from Dublin County Council to grant an additional increase of 10/- per week to roadworkers and to introduce a scheme of service pay with effect from 1st July, 1967. This proposal was sanctioned on 11th December.

There are at present four proposals under examination in my Department and, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, particulars will be circulated with the Official Report.
