Vol. 232 No. 1

Written Answers. - Indebtedness of Semi-State Bodies.

236.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce (a) the total debt of all semi-State bodies, or any boards or bodies under the jurisdiction of his Department, at the latest available date; and (b) the cost of servicing the debt.

The information is as follows:

(a) Total debt of all semi-State bodies, etc. under the jurisdiction of the Department of Industry and Commerce at latest available date — £7,831,567 12s. 8d.

(b) Cost of servicing this debt —

£1,325,414 12s. 3d.

237.

asked the Minister for Health (a) the total debt of all semi-State bodies, or any boards or bodies under the jurisdiction of his Department, at the latest available date; and (b) the cost of servicing the debt.

I assume that the question relates to bodies other than Health Authorities. To the extent to which such bodies are unable to meet their outgoings from their ordinary income they receive support in the form of grants from my Department, and borrowing, except by way of temporary bank overdraft, does not arise.
