Vol. 232 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Haulbowline Bridge.

177.

Mr. Barrett

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the date on which a bridge order was made in respect of the bridge linking Haulbowline Island with the mainland; the date on which construction of the bridge commenced; the date on which is was completed; and the total amount involved in the construction of the bridge.

It is assumed that the Deputy in referring to a bridge order has in mind an order made by the Minister for local Government under the Local Government Act, 1946. The question of such an order did not arise in respect of the bridge linking Haulbowline Island with the mainland since no part of the bridge is on public property.

The construction of the bridge is regarded as having commenced during the last week of September, 1964, when the preliminary work on the site was put in hands. The bridge was completed ready for traffic, on 21st July 1966.

The total amount involved in the construction of the bridge, including all the necessary ancillary works, was £318,842.
