Vol. 232 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Use of Hydrofoil Vessels.

3.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he will make a statement on the possibility of employing hydrofoil vessels between Wexford and British ports.

The use of hydrofoil vessels for commercial purposes in the open sea is still at the experimental stage and it is not possible to say if their operation between Wexford and British points would be practical and economic. This would be a matter in the first instance for the commercial interests concerned. Shipping of all kinds is free to trade to or from any Irish port. Any intending operation of a hydrofoil service would have to make appropriate arrangements with the Wexford Harbour Commissioners.
