Vol. 232 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fox Hunting on Forestry Lands.

32.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware that it is illegal to hunt and shoot foxes on forestry lands; whether he will give a general permission to sheep farmers and their families to do so in order to protect lambs during the coming lambing season; and what procedure should be adopted in order to obtain such permission.

Where sporting rights over State forest lands have not been let or reserved the Forestry Division of my Department would normally be prepared to facilitate persons having a bona fide interest in the destruction of foxes on such lands. In most cases sporting rights are let or reserved and the consent of the owner or lessee of the rights would be necessary. Any farmer who requires permission to destroy foxes on State forest lands should write to the Forestry Division of my Department. A general permission could not be given.
