Vol. 232 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - An Chomhairle Oiliúna.

38.

asked the Minister for Labour the amount of money at the disposal of An Chomhairle Oiliúna; how it is proposed to expend this sum with particular details of the number, location, date and extent of training schemes; the nature of the curricula of these training courses; and whether it is intended to incorporate a series of day, night, or day-release courses in the working of An Chomhairle Oiliúna.

A sum of £250,000 has been provided in the Vote for my Department for the current financial year in respect of a grant to An Chomhairle Oiliúna for the discharge of its functions under the Industrial Training Act, 1967.

An Chomhairle Oiliúna is an independent statutory authority on whom clear responsibility has been conferred for carrying out certain functions in the field of training. The Industrial Training Act, 1967, requires An Chomhairle to make an annual report to me of its proceedings under the Act and copies of the report must then be laid before each House of the Oireachtas.

The first annual report will contain details of An Chomhairle's activities such as those sought by the Deputy. I am informed by An Chomhairle that, in the meantime, they would, on request, give the Deputy reasonable information on particular matters in which he may be interested.
