Vol. 232 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Blackrock (Cork) Garda Station.

55.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will consider the re-opening of the Garda station in Blackrock, Cork, as this is a built-up area in which the population has doubled since the station was closed over ten years ago and as it cannot be adequately catered for by Garda patrols from Garda headquarters in Cork.

When the Blackrock station was closed in 1962, it was arranged that the area served would be divided for Garda purposes between Union Quay station and Douglas station. These arrangements continue to operate satisfactorily, and the crime position and the detection rate are very good. I am fully satisfied that the present arrangements are efficient, and do not call for the re-opening of the former station at Blackrock.
