It has been decided to discontinue the operation of schemes of post-primary scholarships and to provide that all moneys heretofore devoted to both post-primary and university scholarships be devoted in future to student grants for higher education. This will require legislation which I intend to introduce in the current session. The preliminary arrangements have necessarily taken a considerable time.
The draft scheme submitted by Kildare County Council will, therefore, be considered in due course in the light of the amended legislation.
