Vol. 232 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Irish Sea Oil and Gas Exploration.

31.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if any plans are in hand for the exploration for oil and natural gas in the Irish Sea on behalf of this country.

The Government do not engage directly in mineral exploration but make facilities available to other interests to do so. In regard to exploration in the Irish Sea, a Bill has been introduced which, if enacted, will empower the Government to grant facilities for the exploration and exploitation of this country's area of Continental Shelf, including the Irish Sea.

Can the Minister say if any proposals have been received for permission to commence operation?

Can the Minister give any further particulars?

Not at this stage.
