Vol. 232 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sligo Hospitals' Extension.

57.

asked the Minister for Health the estimated cost of the extension to St. Columba's Hospital, Sligo; if the contract has been given; the name of the contractor; and when work is scheduled to be completed.

I assume the Deputy has in mind the scheme for the improvement of sanitary annexes at St. Columba's Hospital. In addition to the building work, expenditure will also arise on mechanical and electrical services installations. It is estimated that the total cost of the project will be about £90,000, exclusive of fees and possible increases due to price variations and extras.

I have notified the mental hospital authority that I have no objection to the proposals submitted by the manager for the acceptance of certain tenders for the building work and associated services installations subject to certain conditions, including the obtaining of guarantee bonds for the full amounts of the contracts. The actual contracts will not be signed until the stipulated conditions have been complied with. I understand that the mental hospital authority and the consultants employed by them are at present finalising the details preparatory to the actual execution of the contract documents.

I understand that the time required for the completion of the work has been estimated by the firm mainly concerned at about 1½ years.

58.

asked the Minister for Health when the extension to Sligo County Hospital will be completed; and the total cost.

I understand that it is expected that construction work should be completed about February, 1969.

It is estimated that the total cost of the work, including fees, furnishings and equipment, etc., will be about £600,000.
