Vol. 232 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unregistered Holiday Accommodation.

12.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power whether he considers it desirable to take steps to exercise some control over unregistered holiday accommodation.

I do not consider it necessary to take steps to exercise control over unregistered holiday accommodation.

Certain premises which do not come up to the standard required for registration as hotels or guest houses are listed by Bord Fáilte as supplementary accommodation. All premises on this list have been visited by an officer of the Board and meet minimum requirements. A total of 1,900 unregistered premises with 8,400 bedrooms are included in this list for 1968. The majority provide accommodation well above the minimum standard and a considerable proportion provide a very high standard of service and accommodation.

It is unlawful for the proprietor of an unregistered premises to describe or hold out such premises as a hotel or guesthouse.
