Vol. 232 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Corporation Housing.

Fitzpatrick

(Dublin South Central) and Mr. Andrews asked the Minister for Local Government the number of houses under construction by Dublin Corporation; the number of sites available for the erection of private and purchase-type houses in possession of the corporation; the number of sites in the corporation's possession for the construction of tenant type houses; the number of houses offered by building contractors to Dublin Corporation by way of package deals; and the number of private and local authority sites for which planning permission has been granted in Dublin city and county.

I understand from Dublin Corporation that they have 2,959 dwellings under construction at present including 1,480 dwellings in the Ballymun project which have not yet been taken over by them; that they have acquired land which will provide 8,280 sites for private and purchase type houses, and 3,017 sites for the construction of normal corporation dwellings; that they have formulated proposals for the acquisition of sites for an additional 4,830 dwellings; that firm offers have been received by them from building contractors for 2,370 dwellings on a "package deal" basis; and that it is estimated that there are sites for roughly 9,000 dwellings in Dublin city and county and Dún Laoghaire Borough areas for which planning permission has been given and which have not yet been completed. Planning permission is not required in respect of sites for local authority dwellings.

Could the Minister say when it is proposed to start releasing sites to small builders to enable them to carry on? They are finding it very difficult now to get sites due to extensive purchasing by the corporation?

It should not be very long now but I do not know exactly when.
