Vol. 233 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Old Age Pension Books.

30.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he is aware of the hardship imposed on old age pensioners who have their pension books collected from them in certain cases while their eligibility for their existing rate of pension is being investigated; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

My Department's arrangements for the issue of a new pension book, where adjustment of pension rate is required, are designed to interfere as little as possible with the weekly payment of pension. Normally investigation is completed before the question of recalling a book arises and where payment is suspended during investigation it is generally due to some cause such as failure to disclose means. If the Deputy will let me have particulars of any case he has in mind I will have it examined.
