Vol. 233 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Grants for Tourist Accommodation.

3.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he is aware that owners, wishing to make alterations to their premises for accommodation of tourists, cannot now get grants from Bord Fáilte under the rural supplementary scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware that the scheme of grants for rural supplementary accommodation for visitors in the western counties, which was announced last April, has proved so successful that the full £100,000 allocated for the purpose in the current financial year has been fully committed. I am happy to announce, however, that provision is being made for the continuation of this scheme in the coming financial year. Accordingly, Bord Fáilte will be prepared to consider applications for grants which, in accordance with the terms of the scheme, should be made through the appropriate regional tourism organisation.
