Vol. 233 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ore Cargo in Grounded Vessel.

6.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if his attention has been drawn to the fact that a boat with a cargo of ore is aground off the County Clare coast; and what action has been or will be taken to avoid danger to marine life in the event of the boat breaking up and the cargo being discharged into the sea.

The answer to the first of the Question is "Yes". As regards the second part, I understand that efforts to salvage the vessel and its contents are to continue. The Fisheries Acts do not, however, confer on me any powers to intervene in a matter such as this.
