Vol. 233 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - House Costs.

25.

asked the Minister for Local Government the estimated cost of providing (a) a four-roomed house at 31st March, 1957 and at the latest available date, and (b) a five-roomed house at 31st March, 1957 and at the latest available date.

The information requested is not available in my Department. In view of the wide disparity in costs and standards as between different areas and different house types, I do not consider that an average figure would have much significance. I may add, however, that the average gross prices of five-roomed new houses for which purchase loans were approved by Dublin Corporation and Dublin County Council were about £2,050 and £2,000 respectively in 1956-57; the corresponding prices in 1966-67 were £3,472 and £3,600 respectively. The type and standard of houses to which these statistics relate are not, as indicated, necessarily comparable.
