The information requested is not available in my Department. In view of the wide disparity in costs and standards as between different areas and different house types, I do not consider that an average figure would have much significance. I may add, however, that the average gross prices of five-roomed new houses for which purchase loans were approved by Dublin Corporation and Dublin County Council were about £2,050 and £2,000 respectively in 1956-57; the corresponding prices in 1966-67 were £3,472 and £3,600 respectively. The type and standard of houses to which these statistics relate are not, as indicated, necessarily comparable.
