Vol. 233 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Intermediate Drainage Schemes.

13.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will consider making money available for intermediate drainage schemes to enable small rivers and streams which are causing so much damage to valuable agricultural land in mountain areas to be cleaned and improved.

The need for drainage in these small catchments is fully appreciated but it is considered that the best use can be made of available funds and resources and the national drainage problem more quickly solved by concentrating on the larger catchments included in the published priority lists. As circumstances permit drainage schemes for the small catchments will be considered.
