Vol. 233 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Stamp Duty on House Purchase.

16.

asked the Minister for Finance if, in view of the high cost of house purchase for newly-weds, he will consider reducing or abolishing stamp duty on the first sale or resale of a house; or as an alternative if he will introduce similar type legislation in relation to stamp duty as exists in Britain.

Any alteration in stamp duty is primarily a budgetary matter to be taken into account with other budgetary considerations at the appropriate time.
