71.

asked the Taoiseach if he will furnish a table of rural workers' hourly wages as at 1st April, 1968 in the form of a reply of 15th February, 1967.

It is proposed to take Questions Nos. 70 and 71 together. The following statement gives for each county for 1st April, 1968, (a) the basic weekly time rates of wages paid to forestry workers and the hourly equivalent based on 43 working hours per week; (b) the minimum weekly rates payable to adult male agricultural workers under the Agricultural Wages (Minimum Rates) Order, 1968 and the hourly equivalent based on 50 working hours per week; and (c) the weekly rates of wages paid by County Councils to road labourers, the weekly working hours and the hourly equivalent derived therefrom. In the case of forestry workers an incentive bonus is payable in addition to the basic weekly time rate. Road labourers are employed at a fixed weekly rate while weekly working hours follow a seasonal pattern which varies somewhat from county to county. Hence derived hourly rates for a particular week show a greater variation than corresponding rates based on annual averages.
