Vol. 235 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Cottage Rents.

29.

asked the Minister for Local Government the reason for the general increase in cottage rents imposed by Kerry County Council particularly on social welfare cases; and if he will consult with the council with a view to restoring the rents to the level that applied before the increase.

The increases referred to by the Deputy are increases in fixed rents which are by law a matter for the housing authority in relation to which I have no function. I understand from the authority that the increases, which operated with effect from 1st April, 1967, do not apply in cases of hardship.

Would the Minister say if these are increases imposed as a result of a direction, subsequently withdrawn, to local authorities who did not impose it?
