Vol. 235 No. 8

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take Nos. 1, 2, 3, 11, 12 and 13 on the Order Paper.

Could the Taoiseach tell us what is the Government's intention regarding Nos. 14 and 15, the Fourth Amendment of the Constitution Bill and the Third Amendment of the Constitution Bill? Would he indicate whether discussion on these two particular measures will get a clear run? The House is aware that these have been put in for the past three or four weeks for discussion for two, three or four hours. I understand the Government originally considered this as one of their major proposals and they intended to have a reasonably quick decision from the House prior to the measure in the form of a referendum being put before the country. It is difficult to decide whether this is deliberate delay.

The Deputy is entitled to put a question. We cannot have a debate.

Deputy Boland threatened to resign if he does not get his way.

What is the Government's intention? Will they give this a clear run so that it will be disposed of?

They do not know.

It will be taken tomorrow.

Is there any good reason why it should not be taken today?

There is other business which is urgent. We have to coordinate all our business.

If it is not cleared tomorrow, can we take it that it will be taken on Thursday of next week?

Very likely, depending on the urgency of other business.

(Interruptions.)

You were afraid to discuss it on televison.

If Deputy Boland resigns, we do not want him.

He is threatening to resign. They have not made up their minds yet. They do not know where they are going.
